le bac / the ferry

Since november 1933 the ferry "Schwan" (swan) was connecting the two side of lake of Zürich between Horgen and Meilen. Its not a far way to drive arround the lake but you avoid the busy cities of Zürich and Rapperswil on each ends... So every day hundreds of people take a short break, nap, brise of fresh air on that beautiful aproximate ten minutes of ride over the water.

When I was a child "The Ferry" already was opperated with two vessels "Schwan II" and "Meilen" normaly driving every 30min and every 15min in rush hours.
Now they operate five vessels "Schwan II", "Meilen", "Horgen", "Zürisee" and "Burg", offering an 6min scheduld on rush hours in summertime. Each vessel has itw own color sheme due to its name:
- FS Schwan II, the swan is the flag animal of Horgen, the colors are as the animal white, red an black.
- FS Meilen, Meilen is located on the right border, the colors are chose after the flag white and yellow.
- FS Horgen, Horgen is located on the left boarder, the colors are chose after the flag white and red.
- FS Zürisee, Zürisee means lake of Zürich in the local german idiom, the colors are white and blue.
- FS Burg, (Burg = castle) is refering to the castle on the flag of Meilen, the colors are white and green.

In 2009 i started working on a part time job "over the lake" so I took the ferry every friday. Very quick I relized that no day looks the same. A year later I started to take ferry dayli so had the idea of an project called "une année sur le bac" (a year on the ferry) posting 365 pictures each of a different day. So far the project never came to an end, I took hundrets of pictures, the staff called my already "the photographer", but after a year I quit the job on the other side and had to abort. I have to admit that at that time my technical equipment still was very poor and as I traveled at 6am and arround 6-7pm light conditions made it very difficult to me at that time.

Anyway, I still take pictures each and every time I'm on "the ferry", with my iPhone, the G15 or the EOS, just what I have with me.

Tonight I decided to share with you my latest pictures from last saturday.

Special thanks goes to Cecilia for lending her brand new EF 70-200 lens to me its amazing!

PS: for the observers FS Zürisee was on dockyard periode that day...
