MAWU LISA

Surface Design
The mural spans three floors of the hallway connecting the entire Artsafari Bucharest exhibition.
The name MAWU LISA translates to "the great mother," referencing the original black goddess who wore a serpent in her womb. It’s a gateway to another realm, a journey into the unknown that invites us to contemplate the very nature of creation and our place in the universe. It’s celebrating the ancient myths and stories that have shaped our world.
The deep black used on the background represents the universe as a sleeping, unknowable darkness, yet it is also the color of creation, the void from which all things emerge.
The serpent, which is featured prominently in the mural, is a symbol of immortality and the energy of spontaneous life. Its continuous flow has the power to move the entire cosmos. When combined with the black backdrop, the serpent takes on a mystical and otherworldly quality, inviting us to contemplate the mysteries of life and the universe.
