With a view to executing the work of the Parque da Cidade do Porto by the acclaimed Landscape Architect Sidónio Pardal, next to the coastal strip, the Supervision of the work "Requalification of the Remate Poente do Parque da Cidade" was awarded to the company VHM - Supervision and Coordination of Works, in which I took part during the execution of the entire work.
My principal duties as the company's Landscape Architect were not only to actively participate in work meetings with the designer, owner of the work, and city park representative, in order to assist in decision-making and transmission of this information to the work director, but also guide In Situ work on this 10.2 hectare project, a very enriching job due to the vast experience and knowledge of Sidónio Pardal Landscape Architect in the design of urban parks. Therefore, my contribution to this work, in addition to enforcing the project's written and drawn parts, was in fact given the opportunity to actively participate both at a technical and aesthetic level in the construction of the project's various built elements, highlighting the park's stone walls, these of an organic nature, often functioning as landscaping stones (more natural-looking stones subjected to natural elements) that punctuate them, such as benches or resting areas with privileged views, closely linked to the morphology of the land and integrated into the context of the City Park.
As for the modeling of the land, under the responsibility of the designer, I was able to guide most of the land modeling work, with the necessary adaptations to favor views of interest, integration and preservation of existing trees that could be preserved and also transmit indications regarding to the finishing modeling, so as not only to give the park the most natural look possible with the undulations created, but also to choose the location of the landscape composition stones strategically placed throughout the park.
In terms of drainage, several ponds with draining wells were also installed, functioning as regulators of the park's hydrological cycle, and thus allowing temporary storage of rainwater during periods of high rainfall and promoting biodiversity.
