DIABLO
In Guatemala, the end of the year festivities begin with the traditional Quema del Diablo and the festivities in honor to the Virgin of Conception. In Guatemala City, on December 8th, it is customary to burn gunpowder in front of the image of the Virgin. Under a devotional context in which diverse people and LGBTIQ+ representatives are a significant part of it. Despite I am not part of the devotion, I was invited by Altare Dei to intervene the traditional devil's costume with the aim of including contemporary visual art practices in the Guatemalan traditions and create a tribute to the Virgin of Conception from diversity.
