Anon(ymous) by Naomi Iizuka
Sound Design
In this re-imagining of Homer's The Odyssey, the protagonist, Anon, is lost in an unfamiliar world with dangerous people pretending to be friends. Anon continues returning to the memories of his mother for comfort and guidance.
I wanted to distort the sounds of the world so the audience would be alienated from familiarity. When music played it was hollow and ethereal. Moments were underscored with unearthly drones and punctuated by reverberations of the war Anon and his mother escaped. Most importantly, the sound water floating and crashing over the audience and across Anon's world recalls their traumatic separation at sea.
