Spring into Idaho

The season of Spring is the most beautiful of all in Idaho.  The land is so ready to celebrate the shedding of long winter nights and short days, that it excitedly dresses itself up in Nature's finest at the very first hint of warmth.  This is usually a mistake, because the temperature dances around freezing at night up until the first of June......or July, tricking the early gardners and many fruit trees.

The weather is the most dynamic in Spring, storm systems blow through regularly, bringing rain, snow, sleet.....or all of these at once, accompanied by amazing cloud formations.  The hills turn the most beautiful shade of green for about two months, wild fruit trees which dot the hillsides burst into bloom, Spring's first flowers strut their colors....and the rivers rage from all of the Spring moisture and early snow melt.  The following is a sample of what you might see if your feet ever find their way to beautiful Idaho.
                                 Early blooming mountain flowers.
Red Plum blossom.  Plum trees are the earliest trees to bloom in Spring.
                                 Peach tree blossoms
                                 Highway between Idaho and Montana.
                                 Winter is still in control.
Six feet of snow and more falling.
                                Winter Rush
World Class white-water --- ice water!!!
                                 Stealth Storm
                                 Momentary lush green hills
These trees believe Spring is in control.
                                 A Spring celebration
Spring snow melt creates new water falls
Which side of reality are we on?!?
                                 Transition Point
Is rain on the way?.....or is it snow?  At this time of year it is anyone's guess.
Clearwater River already running bank to bank. And it is early.
The photographs in this series were taken between April 24 and April 26, 2014.
