Make Jazz, Not War! Poster
For this typographic poster, after learning about the jazz festival and its purpose, I had multiple ideas after researching the aesthetics and graphic elements of jazz posters with their typography while taking inspiration from the ‘Stand with Ukraine’ poster exhibition in Carolla Arts in Springfield, MO. Russian Constructivism is the style I pursued. Not only was it a style I believed was to my taste, but it also made sense to the general topic of the Ukraine-Russian war. It is a play with the concept because Russian Constructivism was a
movement for Futurism that started in Russia for their community. Now their country is attacking another. It is ironic. Using a style that began in Russia makes it familiar to the viewer that Russia is part of the concept.

I chose to do a vintage mike with accents of music notes to visually communicate jazz, musicians, artists, and those that speak out proudly, voicing their opinions. The graphic bullets are tied to the typography to represent the war factor. I used off-white, black, and red to follow Russian Constructivism basics. Yellow and blue were used to represent Ukraine and its people. I believe in a better future and hope this poster typographically communicates that.
