"At night the wind blows from the desert"

All the source material for these are scans from an encyclopedia series we had at home when I was a kid in the late 70s … early 80s, and which I salvaged a year ago when I was clearing up my parent's place when they moved to nursing home.

In the age of infinite scroll & information overload, there's something thoroughly calming about the concept of having ALL the world's information worth knowing in one series of books that fits in your shelf.

The encyclopedia has some utterly fascinating illustrations which I still remember oogling as a kid: rockets, star maps, ships, power plants, charts of the global population and mineral production, guns and exotic animals…

All of that today filtered through the two lenses of nostalgia and understanding that history, science and politics have in many case been completely rewritten since this volume of books was published.
