Packaging Brief - Lovejoy Vodka

Smirnoff Vodka, are developing a daring strategy to enter the perfume and aftershave market to launch a middle price range product. Their thinking is to capture the attention of their loyal vodka customers with this brand innovation.

Perfume and aftershave is a sensory product that encapsulates positive self image perceptions around a chosen lifestyle. My packaging needed to have a strong tactile element embedded within the design. Major consideration was given to a varity of card/papers/substrates that supported the brand/product enhancement.

We had the choice of what alcohol brand we wanted to use within this breif. I decided I was going to use a vodka brand, but I wanted to use a company that wasn't well know. I didn't want to pick a brand that numerous people on my course were also using. I liked the idea of standing out.

I went with Lovejoy vodka, what made me decided to use this brand was the design found within the label. I liked the style, even though every bottle held the same vodka and amount, each label was different. Depending on your mood, or who was buying the alcohol, determinded which bottle you went home with. Refer to images above.

Once I'd choosen my brand, I started researching straight away. I found out a lot about the brand itself and where the vodka came from. I wanted to find something out about the brand or place the vodka was made - this I could then use within my perfume packaging.

The facts I found out, that influenced my final packaging design were;

. Portland has a climate marked by both warm, dry summers and wet, cool chilly winter days. This climate is ideal for growing roses. For more than a century, Portland has been known as the 'City of Roses'.

. There was a very influencal man from Portland called Asa Lovejoy. He was an American pioneer and politician in the region that became the U.S state of Oregon. He is best remembered for the founder of the city.

From here I decided I was going to use roses over my packaging. I wanted to keep the finished packaging quiet close in relation to the already exsiting vodka labelling. This is why the main badge is exactly the same. Overall I feel the finished perfume packaging is fitting to the alcohol brand and it's style.

I researched into numerous different perfume and aftershave packaging, I wanted to use something different yet new. I looked through the perfume and aftershave found within a range of different high street stores.

I felt the packaging design i've used stands out from the average straight forward packages. This gives the buyer chance to see what there purchasing, and how the bottle and purfume looks overall. As i'm wanting to use roses on my packaging, I feel it's only right to have a rose scented perfume.
