Rio Negro Flooded Forest
I have wanted to do an illustration around the Amazon River dolphin for a long time, so finally, I put the pencil on iPad to do it! This illustration is the bottom part of a bigger Rio Negro forest ecosystem piece.
To create the piece, I got really into the wildlife in one specific part of the Pantanal, the Rio Negro flooded forest, where the Pink River Dolphin was most abundant. After realizing that many different plants and marine life inhabited the same ecosystem, I collaged them into a tableaux-like scene.
Interestingly, many fish in this part of the Amazon (except the Pink River Dolphin) thrive in healthy amounts.
However, the Pantanal (and the Rio Negro Flooded forest) is at high risk of disappearing due to various human (hunting/poaching of endangered species, deforestation, along with pollution) and environmental (unpredicted forest fires, increase in frequent extreme events).

Thus making these ecosystems more crucial to protect than ever before.
Wait and watch for the 2nd part of the illustration!
