Party People

Fine Arts
Back in the day on occasion I was known to have thrown a party or two. In fact it was something I always really enjoyed and something that I found was akin to alchemy. Mixing disparate elements together to make something that has more value than its individual elements. Hence the title “Party People” which I kind of gleaned from Afrika Bambata’s seminal track Planet Rock. Or at least that’s what’s always playing in my head when I think of the title of the piece. The piece tries to capture a bit of the essence of a large gathering, a multitude of small interactions which are continually shifting and evolving and that together form a whole. Dynamic and ever changing just like life. The composition is partially inspired by the Pieters Brueghel, elder and younger. Here’s to all the gatherers out there, all the folks that build the fires so the rest can come and warm themselves. This one’s for you. We are after all social beings…
