Science Coastal Road
A web site
This urban arm of the Outreach Centre is the natural and necessary continuity of the Science Tent and Libertad Pedestrian Walkway – both already completed and very popular – to consolidate its mission of disseminating science. The Tent has immediately become a highly demanded space for community activities, even beyond those programmed by CECs. On the other hand, the Libertad Pedestrian Walkway, built six years ago, is a public place linking the civic centre with the riverside. As defined in the original project, the sector facing CECs has been clearly recognized as the Science Stretch.

The sector proposed for the Science Coastal Road covers a riverside area approximately 100m long by 30m wide (a third of the sector destroyed by the earthquake on February 27, 2010), between the river and the eastern building line of Avenida Costanera Arturo Prat. This area of approximately 3000m² shall be incorporated to the urban fabric through a single and continuous treatment produced by new materials, street furniture, lighting, pavements, etc.

The central element of this sector will be the FOUCAULT PENDULUM that will be moved from the Main Hall in CECs to a crystal and steel tower placed over a pedestrian podium. The treatment of the area intervened considers a large space – Agora – containing elements representative of scientific culture: sculptures, illustrated pavements, lighting, and several others to be designed. Contents related to the history and evolution of scientific knowledge.
