For this composite, I was inspired by vintage and feminine portraits
and decor. In the 19th century, lockets and bedside frames were kept close
to admire one’s outward appearance. This fascinated me in an age where
digital portraits are posted instead of cherished at times. I was also inspired
by vintage fashion which included lots of tulle fabrics, pearls, doilies, and
other feminine materials. During this project, I loved experimenting with
mixed media. As a youth teacher, I have always admired how all of our
senses can work together to bring reality to an otherwise dormant piece.
Watercolors and pastels have been a way for me to express my artistic
character outside of photography, which this project allowed me to
incorporate both talents into one.
