Colorado - Brasil com S

Brasil com S is a series of limited edition beers produced by Colorado, distributed online and in their proprietary shops. It is used as a way for Colorado to experiment with new and interesting flavors that sometimes become bigger products.

The original design for the series is by Colletivo Design, and I illustrated 5 editions:
15, 16, 17, 19 and 20.

Monochromatic vector illustrations are screen printed directly onto the glass of the bottle, which is then covered with a disposable paper package and an external sticker with a colored version of the front illustration, and then tied with a piece of string.

#15 - juicy ipa with Starfruit
The main visual element in this edition is the unique star shape of the main ingredient.
Front - Sketches
Alternatives were based on incorporating the star shape in different ways, and also using water as a connection to the "juiciness" in Juicy IPA.
Front - Negative / Positive
We use a very particular process in creating these illustrations. First, we start with a negative illustration, white on black, which is used on the front of the bottle.
Then we create a positive version of the image, black on white, and they are both combined to create the colored illustration for the external sticker.

After a few color studies, the artwork is colored and integrated with the title and technical information. The color layers are slightly offset on purpose, creating a third color where the layers overlap and giving the image a more hand-crafted feel.

Back - Sketches
The back illustration follows the same theme as the front, but it is always integrated with typography. Here the sentence reads something like "Starfruit makes great beer too."

#16 - porter with Cocoa from bahia and Cumaru
Here we have 2 ingredients from different biomes: the amazon and the coast.
The spectacled bear is a Brazilian species and Colorado's mascot. We used him to play with both environments and ingredients in an interesting way.

#17 - HOP LAGER WITH TAPIOCA AND BRAZILIAN HOPS
Using hops from Brazilian farms grown sustainably, this edition focuses on the land and on the origin of the main ingredient. One alternative shows us a family taking care of the crops.
One easter egg is that the stars in the sky of the final illustration correspond to the stars in the Brazilian flag.

#19 - dubbel with Ginger, clove and cinnamon
In Brazil, June has a very traditional celebration called "Festa Junina", which is specially popular in the Northeast. One of it's main attractions is the food and a drink called "Quentão", which is a hot drink made with wine and a mixture of many ingredients.
In this edition, the flavor was composed with ingredients from the Quentão, which were also the main visual point. The chosen front illustration references a traditional art style from the Northeast, called Cordel, which uses woodcut printing.

#20 - Witbier with TANGERINE and LEMON GRASS
The idea behind this edition was to celebrate football, in connection to the World Cup. More specifically, it focuses on improvised street football in Brazil, the way most people actually play it, as opposed to the glamorous professional version of the sport.
