In particular, the project reflects on the asymmetrical relationship existing between local producers and multinationals in the agri-food sector and brings to light a method of extraction of resources that is extremely harmful for the territory. In this regard, it is estimated that, in the last twenty years, the uncontrolled exploitation of the soil and the widespread use of chemicals by farmers have caused the destruction of 80% of the Ivorian forests and the consequent disappearance of the animal species that inhabited these places, including elephants and chimpanzees.

Within this framework, our photos retrace the stories and everyday life of the various actors involved in the production of this fruit and focus on Choco +, an artisan chocolate shop born in Grand Bassam from an NGO's Fair Trade project in collaboration with Communauté Abele. This laboratory represents an alternative experience of cocoa processing, in strong contrast to the classic logic that requires the Ivory Coast to accept the economic conditions set by and in the importing countries. In fact, workers buy cocoa directly from some producers in the region, selected on the basis of criteria that respect the environment, human rights, workers and children, and transform it without using preservatives and / or other added materials. This allows not only to obtain a deliciously natural aroma, but also to bring respect for the territory and the work behind the production of chocolate back to the center of the discussion.
Proof that an alternative is possible, Choco + defines itself as an example of a new concept of economy and society, based on the enhancement of local products, on environmental sustainability and on the awareness that a more just and equitable world can and must be built.
