In the Spring of 2014 I developed a repeatable system by which I can create visual representations of songs and then animate them. Each visualization is derived from hard data (such as tempo and the duration of each "part" by each instrument) and subjective perception (color choice and movement). My goal is for the viewer to be able to perceive a general sense of energy and activity from the still image, and for the animations to reinforce these. I chose to animate a few songs which are relatively common but vary to a degree in genre:
