"I believe the gaming industry has in general evolved to the point where we're still able to provide players for longer on the same title, and then letting players get immersed throughout the globe. From a developer's perspective this gives us a chance to experiment and improve on the user experience--add new content, and add new features. We don't have a finite time frame in mind for a transition, but we do know there's a hugely passionate user base that we'd like to continue to provide content to."
World of Warcraft
John Hight (production director): "I think we've been fortunate to have dedicated supporters for the last 13 years. We're constantly bringing new content out, consequently, it's been quite an interesting evolution of the game. There will be the chance to see this happen very soon in the future with Classic due out, but just compare us to where we were when we launched WoW to where we are today and where we'll be when we launch Battle for Azeroth.
"If you only looked at those two points, you would be able to conclude that Battle for Azeroth is the sequel. It's called 'WoW 2'.' The change in the game has taken place over 13 years. It's just that because it's happened in fragments and fragments, I'm not sure the extent to which people appreciate how things have changed.
How far the view in the game and the resolution that we have and the level of graphic fidelity we've got in our characters, all of them have increased in resolution. The spell effects that we've added , as well as the combat mechanics that have changed throughout the classes; the way the interface has evolved. To be better or worse you'll have to learn an element of it each time and we're trying create a less difficult and a more enjoyable to learn your character and have mastery over it.
"And the storytelling that we provide--in Legion alone, we had more voiceover than any previous expansion and in some cases more than two or three expansions combined. It's an incredible amount, and we're going to continue to do that because we like the depth it brings to the narrative.
"We are able to think of a million things we'd like to accomplish by playing the game. it's a great field to think of new ideas, new stories, and even new features to. This is where we are. It's more about what we need to do right now versus how much we're gonna do in the near future?"
Kaeo Milker (production director): "Right now Heroes of the Storm is a living, breathing game. We update it continuously. There are patches released every week. New heroes are coming for release every three or five weeks. There are major patches with additional content and features all the time. It's just always growing and evolving and gets more and better all the time.
