270 m2 private house in Baku city
The client requested a bright, light space using natural materials, but with a splendor touch. I took Mexican desert nature as the concept, as the summer in our region creates similar conditions, except that cacti are rarely seen. Upon entering the house, we are immersed into the atmosphere of tranquility and beauty of plain solid textures, natural shapes, and colors, emphasized by the soft light of unique yet harmoniously fitted light fixtures. I aimed to create a feeling of a pause in time, using associations with static elements such as rocks, cliffs, piles of sand, and the earth, as well as with the flora and fauna that live independently in the Mexican desert land, represented by cacti and cocoons in the chandelier. Round floor lamps among plants evoke in the mind an image of moonlight clinging to cacti “sleeves”. I like that it turned out to be slightly surrealistic. In the living room, combined with the dining area, I added a bit more expensive–look accents but stayed true to natural associations, such as various types of minerals and wood species. I added balance with elements seemingly created by nature itself. The view from the hallway into the living room serves as a picture, a kind of art on the wall, against the background of the hallway. The railing of the staircase, made from the same materials, breaks the typical closedness of hall spaces and automatically draws one's attention to see what lies beyond, and the design of the corridor on the second floor justifies itself as a background for a composition consisting of a chandelier, a stretched vertical window, divided into views of the garden and the sky. Here also found its place a cabinet of the author's designs with a secret option. In some aspects, design is represented in various versions to embrace changing moods over the years. Unfortunately, this design never saw the light of day as the house was sold during the renovation stage. Perhaps it's for the best, as I would love to develop this design further in a more suitable space and even more refined form.
