This project conveys the “strange beauty” that rises from the unfamiliar form and texture of plants mutated to survive in a broken future environment. Based on scientific predictions of climate change that will come in the future, it was created by imagining the future of real plants living in jungles, deserts, and oceans.

The main video, which maximizes the characteristic shape, texture, and movement of mutant plants, proceeds at a slow tempo with ambient sound. This video serves to convey the atmosphere of the work to the audience as much as possible and to immerse them deeply into the work.

A detailed description of the 15 species of plants appearing in the video can be found along with the image in the Mutant Plant Encyclopedia, which consists of 100 pages. It is largely divided into three chapters according to its habitat, and explains its original appearance, characteristics, and environmental factors that have become mutations.

The firmly finished hardcover binding and classical Garamond font make the plants in the encyclopedia seem to be authentic and recorded by someone. Translucent papers show the letters and images on the back page, and this reminds of the plants’ leaves that pass through the light.

Unlike the Mutant Plant Encyclopedia, the photo book consists only of images without text. The delicately produced light, all excluded colors, and the photo composition that seems to have captured the moment of a plant by a real photographer make you experience the “strange beauty” that exudes only from the appearance of the plant.
