Busking History
Busking has a long history that dates back to the medieval ages , back then local merchants would invite buskers to their storefront , plazas and public squares to attract new business .
Busking is not illegal but local council will tell you about bylaws or rules that has to be observed

Not blocking public highway - no licence - not making to much noise

Busking is the act of performing in public places for gratuities

Etymology - The term busking was first noted in the English language around the middle of 1860's in Great Britain. The verb to bust , from the word busker , comes from the Spanish root word "buscar" with the meaning "to seek". The Spanish word 'buscar in turn evolved from the Indo-European word "brush-sko" (to win , conquer). It was used for many street acts , and was a title for a very famous Spanish book about one of them , El Buscon.
