I n Love With Excellence    the POP UP SHOP

A while back I started an etsy store and invited my friends to sell stuff. Some of them did, some of them didn't. We started making more stuff, better stuff. Art, artisanal, craft, design, give or take all of those things. Stuff made with hands and tools, for the home or a celebration of sorts. RelativeSpace commissioned me to do an installation in their lovely giant window, which evolved into a Pop Up Shop for our goods. Fun and tears, my friend! Originally conceived as a riot of surrealist pattern, colour, object craziness contemplating obsessions with space/time perception, the end result was extremely pared back. At first unsteady with these changes, I am now mightily pleased. Like the fanciful and occasionally useful objects for sale, it is intended for consideration at many and odd angles. The optical illusions reduced to a most graphic form, tricking with depth and dimension as you turn to look, this way and that. Inspirations of core concept still very much in play.
