Constructus Masterclass

The brief was to capture an iconic and provocative image to represent the campaign message  of “RECOLONIZE”: a subversion of colonial and imperialist language, imagery and symbols to introduce a new idea – the new African creative entrepreneurs; ready to invade the world with their creative products.
The photograph was the centerpiece of the website, where the user scrolled through the entire outfit as part of their browsing experience. To create the look everyday items were compiled as a template for the iconography.
The Dictator is brought to life using photoshop to complete the look. The skin is made porcelain smooth, the Dicatator a few inches taller. The symbols are enhanced, and neon colours makes the character pop. Gold embelishments frames the Dicatator identity. And the 'wog' inconography challenges our perceptions.
The result is a striking look with incredible poster sized detail. The Dictator is a provocative image, playing on the stereotypes of our history. A history plagued by power-hungry & corrupt leaders (dictators).

In this image we re-appropriated these symbols and presented a creative interpretation of a leader we could be proud of.
