CARABINER COFFEE CO.

Carabiner Coffee Co. is a mobile coffee company that is powered by a 1971 VW van that roams the mountains of Colorado and sells coffee. It's a beautiful thing. Their goal is to get great locally roasted coffee out there and into the bodies of the great climbers, hikers, boarders, skiers and mountaineers that spend their days where the want to.

When given the opportunity to create an identity for CCC, we jumped at the chance right away. Its one of those projects that is kind of wild and you just want to be a part of it anyway you can. The target market for CCC is winter athletes of the mountains, so we had to make sure that the logo matched that aesthetic. To us, in three words, that meant rugged, simple, and strong. For those who don’t know what a carabineer is, its a coupling link with a safety closure, used by rock climbers. We played around with the carabineer shape a lot. Simplified it, and then duplicated it and interlocked it with one another so that it made strong shape together. Once we had this completed we wanted to have it identify with the area, Colorado. So we added a symmetrical 3-piece mountain set to just so, as well as further the strength of the logo. We also were asked to make a menu and signage for CCC. We thought what better material to use for this Colorado based mobile coffee company than wood. So we designed and then screen-printed, with our “brother company” Ambient Inks, onto a 2’ by 2’ piece of wood. Then for the signage on the outside of the van we used a laser cutter to cut out the logo and the type. Here are the results.
