SHAO Rebranding (Brand identity)

Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory named after Nasreddin Tusi of Azerbaijan National
Academy of Sciences was established in 1959.


SHAO is one of the famous observatories of Eastern countries. It is mainly involved with 
theoretical studies of stars, planets and other celestial bodies. 



Logo Concept

Upon a thorough analysis of the market I have decided to use planet shapes that competitors commonly use in visual identifications. 
Observatory is named after astronomer Nasir al-Din al-Tusi, so I choose his famous theory of "Tusi couple" as the main idea that is based on orbital motions of planets. 

The symbol is based on an orbits of planets. Logo marks the visual of telescope (two big circles are the opening lenses of telescope and the middle circle represents eye) shapes that corresponds with the theory. More exclusive meaning is wisdom, unity, curiousity.

Logo contruction is based on Fibonacci number ratio. Logo icon mark is rotated around 
30 degrees in clockwise direction as it is the best angle to watch sky with telescope. 

And these are icons of observatory itself that will be used as wayfinders for guests and workers.
