This cover image is of a petrol station in Wolverhampton. I took this image to enter into a competition for which I was selected as one of three finalists. The competition brief was to capture an image that reflected the current state of the world during the pandemic. This petrol station is usually incredibly busy with traffic queueing on the main road to enter, to see it this empty I felt best represented the theme.
Photography Coursework
These images were part of my A Level Photography Mock Exam in which I had to emulate the style of a chosen album cover. The original image was shot in studio settings with a sunset lamp, and then edited in photoshop to appear as though aged and behind a lava lamp. I completed this by layering bubbles over the image and changing the relevant overlay settings.
This image was taken with a view to developing skills in neon paint and lighting techniques. It was further edited in photoshop to complete the symmetrical layered design.
The above series of images were taken as part of my A Level Photography coursework in which I wanted to explore the use of silhouettes and lighting techniques needed to achieve such an effect.
The above pieces were created as a mini-project where we explored landscape photography, and I was inspired by Stephanie Jung and her juxtaposed images.
Although not part of any coursework, these are two images taken on a recent holiday to Switzerland that I am particularly proud of in terms of composition and the edits applied to the second photo.
Art Coursework
This series of developmental pieces is part of my A Level Art Coursework in which I am exploring traditional arts and crafts from Japan. I particularly enjoy how they use seasons and nature for inspiration in much of their art work, and I wanted to incorporate that into my project.
The seasonal designs of Cherry Blossom to represent Spring, a Koi fish to represent Summer, a Maple leaf for Autumn, and the '3 friends of winter' which are Plum Blossom, Pine and Bamboo were all transferred into embroidery for me to practice and learn this skill ahead of a planned larger end design. I completed the Uchiwa fan as part one of my final piece for this project.
The second part of the final piece for this project is a wall hanging that is currently a work in progress. I have embroidered Cherry Blossoms and Plum Blossoms on opposing corners, and a Koi fish in the centre. I also utilised some new skills in this piece by machine sewing the hems, and fabric printing the two smaller Koi fish. I have also made a small clay bowl and ringing ball to attach as well. I will embroider a Maple leaf onto the panel as well as Bamboo leaves to ensure all seasons are represented. Once completed, the small bowl and ringing ball will be attached to the bottom to act as a chime, and the whole panel attached to a wooden pole so it may be hung.
These images represent the process of developing a sketch into a wood block print, using a lino print first as a method of practice.
The above images have been important in developing my skills in new areas, such as, ink painting, mark making, monoprinting, quilling, sketching and painting. Having not taken Art prior to A Level, I felt I needed to learn as many techniques and skills as possible.
