Hawk & Bass [Videogame] - WIP

And then there was Hawk...
INITIAL CHARACTER DESIGN - HAWK
 
Character Description: Hawk is a mechanic who lives in a small village located within the deepest of jungles, he's more of a loner unless of course you need something repaired. His McGuyver like talents for constructing and repairing machine parts rivals that of his friend from a far Bass.
 
Process: During this stage in design,  the avian from space had a bigger build to create a sense of power. His overall mass was a way to communicate his strength and provide a visual sense that he does a lot of heavy lifting. This would be tweak further throughout the course of development...
 
And then there was Bass...
INITIAL CHARACTER DESIGN - BASS
Character Description: If Hawk is McGuyver than Bass is more in line to being an inventor. Hawk's speciality is fixing and improvising with his tools, but Bass on the other hand invented a powersuit in order to work and explore on land. Even though he is a fish out of water, Bass tends to be more of a humorous addition for the duo while Hawk is more of the stern type and commanding type.
 
Process: This was a fun character to create, not only is it a strange concept to think of fish in power armor, but making him a brilliant inventor with a sense of humor just seemed so appealing. Most of the inspiration behind his design derived from Megaman X bosses and mech suits found in a lot of Japanese mecha anime.
Composition Test
PROJECT SUMMARY: A logo is still currently in the works, but I wanted to have a place holder composition to get a feel of how the characters complimented eachother design wise.
Bass get's an upgrade...
PROCESS: After a few reiterations of Hawk, I decided to slim Bass down a bit as, gaving him more of a bullet shape. I might tone done the saturation of colors so he isn't so distracting to players.
Hawk's 2nd Reiteration
PROCESS: With his finalized pallete of color decided, I wanted to make him a more top heavy brawler type character. This shares similarities to the initial concept, but an added tool kit really sells his mechanic inspired look.
Hawk's Final Revision
PROCESS: After many nights of sketching I played around with Hawk's mass again and drew him more streamlined and proportioned to human anatomy. Overall I fill this is more refined and still carries true with his core design philosophy.
