VIRTUS.PRO VISUAL IDENTITY FOR TI9
Designing uniforms and team elements for the world's main eSports event
ART DIRECTOR AND DESIGNER. CREATOR OF LOGO—SUBSIGNS—FONTS—PATTERNS—KITS. SPORTS DESIGN STUDIO QUBERTEN, JULY 2019
For the first time in history, in 2019 The International was organized in an Asian country. Regular participant of the championship Virtus.pro prepared something unique this time. It's a special set of uniforms full of aesthetics and respect for local culture.
Many people associate China with hieroglyphs, perfect urban patterns, red street lamps, and pandas. The kit has absorbed all the elements of Virtus.pro under this landscape: red colour, special logo, a large block with a hieroglyphic abbreviation. To enhance the colour, I added a pattern inspired by Chinese ornaments based on the V sign, and individual branded blocks of esports players on the back, which combine two types of writing.
Chinese fans have a special nickname for Virtus.pro team that can be translated as “powerful fight”. These words was combined with special logo. There’s also a small easter egg for those who are really into details: the Chinese characters have the letters VP hidden within them.
