Endangered Species │ A Nat Geo Infographic

Brief

The brief was to create an infographic about an article online. The topic that piqued my interest was animals. I had animals in mind but what about animals was the question that made me think about the topic. It boiled down to 3 topics that concerned animals. Endangered Species, Animal Abuse and Animal Categories. I did research on each one of the topics mentioned and felt that Endangered Species from a Nat Geo article was something that will be the most impactful and meaningful for my infographic poster.

Sketches

I made 10 sketches based on the article that was chosen for my poster. Since National Geographic  is one of the most popular American monthly magazine and are known for their photojournalism, I had to design an infographic based on the article I had read.
Out of the 10, number 3 was the most visually appealing after consultation and I decided to work further on that piece
MoodBoard

Regarding the colour palette and moodboard for my poster,  I felt like I wanted my poster to be situated during a sunset where everything is orange and purple, also bringing in a bit of red to show the seriousness of the topic and what needs to be brought up for the public to be more aware
Infographic Posters

I wasn't quite satisfied with the first iteration so I did it from scratch again but in Illustrator instead of Procreate. I made the circle bigger and added more trees with a huge cloud of gas behind to represent air pollution from deforestation which was also one of the causes of endangerment for these animals. The title seemed  to fit nicely in the cloud so I placed it there as a guideline for my text below
Storyboard

For the storyboard, I did lots of research on Youtube for the direction and tone of the animation. I decided that a Voiceover type of video would not do me any benefit as I wanted the text to have an impactful meaning about animal endangerment
Design Elements

Getting the first elements ready for the opening scene which includes lots of trees and leaves. It needs to be separated in order for it to be animated which is the tedious part. Everything will then be brought in After Effects to be animated since most of my characters are moving instead of stagnant

Conclusion

The animation was challenging compared to the first part of this project as creating something  in After Effects takes a long time, also being very patient with the process is important as well. I learnt that if graphics can convey my messages well to my audience then long and draggy text are not really needed at all. I have gotten very familiar with the software over the past year as many projects rely heavily on it and I am glad that I was able to create something presentable to have on my portfolio
