"Bartleby, lo scrivano. Una storia di Wall Street" di Herman Melville
IT “Preferirei di no”: questa frase è la chiave interpretativa del Bartleby di Melville. Ogni volta che il protagonista pronuncia queste parole, la sua morte diventa sempre più inevitabile. Partendo da questa frase, abbiamo deciso di ripetere di volta in volta il testo di Melville fino a quest'ultima. La continua ripetizione di “Preferirei di no” annichilisce il protagonista e cattura il lettore in un gioco imprevedibile dove diventa vittima della storia senza risposta di Melville. La fine del libro coincide con la ripetizione completa del racconto, creando un ciclo che rafforza il concetto principale alla base del libro. Ogni volta che il testo viene ripetuto, il carattere si rimpicciolisce in modo da imitare l'annientamento di Bartleby.
EN “I would prefer not to”: this sentence is the interprative key for Melville’s Bartleby. Every time the protagonist says these words, his death become more and more inevitabile. Starting from this sentence, we have decided to repeat Melville’s text until this sentence time after time. The continuous repetition of “I would prefer not to” annihilates the protagonist and seize the reader in an unpredictable game where he becomes the victim of Melville’s answerless story. The end of the book coincides with the full repetion of the short story, creating a loop that reinforces the main concept behind the book. Every time the text is repeated, the font gets smaller so as to mimick Bartleby’s annihilation.
