OMO
heritage chess set

OMO is a chess set designed to help the modern youth of a mixed heritage communicate better who they are through their possessions. The pieces were designed to be handed down as gifts from relatives This refers to the Scandinavian tradition of inherited collectables. Each piece consists or two components; the body and the bead. When playing, the pieces should be lifted by their bead and once their position has been chosen the bead is dropped onto the base of the body creating a percussion which varies in pitch to represent each piece and the permanence of the move made. Each pitch refers to the traditional Yoruba talking drums which use the tonal nature of its language to communicate concepts with distorting percussion. The chess board is made of Iroko a Nigerian hardwood known for healing properties.
The pieces are available: made from brass and steel, or silver and gold. The beads are made from lapis and Jasper stone
