Children's Book Illustrations - Pratham Books
My work with Pratham Books - Bangalore, India
My journey with Pratham Books began in 2009. My first work was to design an annual report in B/W and single colour.
This gave us the idea to try and produce coloured books that were also more cost effective So the first set of 4 books -
Can and Can't, Do and Don't, This and That and Curly and straight were a result of that experiment.

Then I worked on Paper Play - the title is a dead giveaway, because what I did was I really played and explored paper to
craft each illustration and character. When Amma went to School was set in a village school, so I opted for bright primary colours and cutouts to craft the visuals. It also had a snake - and I did not wan't children to be afraid of the creature hence
I crafted a paper cut snake painted with bright blue and yellow lines. By this time I had published nine books with them.
Each book was like a challenge that has taken me down a different path.

All these books are available on Creative Commons, and are downloadable and readable in different countries.
Artists, teachers and parents can download them from Story Weaver, translate them and print them to create more
reading materials for themselves and the children. Bahasa (Indonesia), German, Chinese, Tibetan, Amharic, Norwegian
and Korean are just some of the languages in which these stories have been translated into on Story Weaver.

Do and don't
Do and don't - is about a little boy who refuses to do anything!
This book was a part of a series that was designed cost effectively. It is printed in two colours,
reducing the cost of production, and thereby making the book more affordable.

Can and can't
Can and can't - is about the things we can do, or things we can't do.
This book was a part of a series that was designed cost effectively.

This and That
This and that - is about me and my pet cat, and all the things we do.
This book was a part of a series that was designed cost effectively.

Paper Play
Paper Play- is about what children can do with a single piece of paper. They can make things from it and dive into their imaginary world.
The illustrations were made from paper and paper shreds keeping this in mind.

When Amma went to School
When Amma went to School - she visits a village school, to find it entirely empty and abandoned.
There seems to be only one other creature in the school, that day.
