Live and Work Space: House for an Artist

Sachiko Kodama is a Japanese artist who is best known for her liquid sculptures made of ferrofluids. The interiority of this project was inspired by the organic shapes of ferrofluids in motion. Dynamism, continuity and flexibility are the concepts that define the interaction between the spaces.

The vertical component dividing public and private spaces is the dynamic piece of my project. This internal wall acts like a continuos and flexible surface that mimics the curves created by ferrofluids.

Materialized by a perforated steel sheet with small circular perforations,  this surface blocks the light or the views from one side to the other, or reveals them.  To accentuate continuity, this circular pattern is continued through other elements such as furniture, lighting and decorative pieces. Interactions between the spaces are very fluid and the limits between one space and its contiguous one is not clearly defined.
