Charles Brooke: The Comic

This piece is a 6-page comic book which I was commissioned to make during a four-day comics illustration workshop organised by the Language and Literature Bureau, Brunei and facilitated by Yusof Gajah, a renowned comic book artist in Southeast Asia. Artists involved in the workshop were each given a script in which their work must follow. I received a manuscript about Charles Brooke, a man famous for trading off many Bruneian states back in the 1800s.

I have to admit, this was my first attempt on creating a historical comic strip; and I felt intimidated working with many other more skilled and experienced comic artists. However, Yusof Gajah selected my work as one of the best and most unique.
This piece was done in April 2011. The images below feature only pages 2,5 and 6 of my illustrations. Please contact me if you would like to see more of them.
