What if Dyson made a cordless Screwdriver/drill?

Brief

Through of a complex mechanical object, preferably a hand-sized appliance,  develop and redesign it using as a reference a brand that does not have this type of object in their actual market. The Object chosen for this work has been a multi-functions cordless Drill, due to its complexity of components and its current design and “feel” that is outdated and over exaggerated. Take a look at what the current market holds...

But asthetics and form giving, are not the only problems associated with this type of tools, acessability and weight is also a problem of great importance. The weight distribution that is applied in the hands from all the components is excessive and makes this tool to many people, not operable
​​​​​​​

To fix this, we need to shrink the brutal size of this tool, and make the technology inside it more weight friendly (that's where dyson engineers come in) and rearrange the location of the buttons to avoid bad acessability. After it, incorporate the asthetics of the brand and make it follow its function. Simple and straightfoward. 




Product Funcionallity




Adjustable Drill Chuck / Lighting

The Dyson SD01 features a 1mm to 8mm drill chuck that has the capacity for all at home needs, including drills and screwdrivers. To ajust it and compress it, just rotate the ring arround it. The Drill chuck also features a ring light and a laser, activated by the pull of the triggerthat points straight at where you need to drill or screw, to help you in areas with low visuability. ​​​​​​​


Touch Screen / Main Control Button

From the touch screen you can keep track of the battery, regulate the rotational speed of the drill and identify if the system is locked or unlocked. The screen is located in the back of the tool with a slight upper inclination, so that when in use, the screen keeps facing you all times. The screen features a rotational button that helps navigate and regulate the functions mentioned above. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​


Charging / Dust Cap

The technology was made more familiar by using a plug-in port on a 10,000 mAh battery that provides approximately 1 hour of full use, which is sufficient for home use. The charging port has a tap to prevent dust accumulation.
