MAR 2012 The brief is to choose a packaging for a product that is not sustainable for our environment and re-package it. The product that I had chosen is chicken eggs. Most of the egg carton that could be found in the market is either in plastic or molded paper pulp form. Plastic is not sustainable for the environment, while molded paper pulp uses up a lot of space. I tried to solve the problems above by using corrugated cardboard as the material, keeping the design simple to save production cost and the time to assemble it. The final egg box contains two parts: a trapezium-shaped sleeve and a tray enclosed in the sleeve which holds the egg. The design of the sleeve is to follow the shape of the eggs placed in the tray (The best way to store an egg is to place the pointed end down so that the air sac stays at the top). The logo is a running egg to illustrate the egg was laid in free range. There are two range of packaging, the red label holds normal eggs while the green label holds Omega 3 enriched eggs. Read Less

The sleeve has a die-cut window at the top and its both ends left opened to let consumers inspect the condition of the eggs.
The tray is a piece of corrugated cardboard with die-cut circles on it to hold the eggs in place. There are two small tabs at each end of the tray to prevent the tray from slipping out.
HOW TO USE
Fold in both of the small tabs at either end of the tray, then push the tray in.
Pull the tray out from the other end.
And you have your lovely free range eggs!
