MORE IS MORE UNLESS IT’S NOT
SEASON Booth 209
NADA NY 2014
May 9-11
Pier 36, Basketball City

SEASON is excited to exhibit at NADA NY a selection of paintings and sculptures by two New York City artists.  Sharon Butler creates New Casualists paintings and Elisabeth Kley makes dramatic bright ceramics.  They use traditional methods to produce works that are personal and unique.  Both artists are interested in an honest beauty and the various ways it can be created.

Sharon Butler’s paintings revolve around the idea of lessness.  For her, the challenge has become to produce ambitious works on a small scale.  Looking to a previous generation of artists that flourished with a career of large- and ultra-large scale work—Smithson, Steir, di Suvero.  Sharon positions her paintings into a situation where there is no luxury of thinking grand; the magnanimity of her work comes from the acknowledgment of her liberated ego.

Elisabeth Kley’s ceramics are other-worldly and every-worldly.  Roman, Islamic, Mexican and Byzantine styles, along with others, mingle in her work to produce fantasy imagery that defies time and place.  Fine art and decorative elements from various periods are filtered into utilitarian neo-Majolica, destined to furnish the interiors of a flamboyant world, a world inhabited by dandies and fops.  Elisabeth's line-work mimics wrought iron and serves double duty as it becomes frames for dozens of eyes.
