WHAT CATCHES THE EYE - OPATIJA
Opatija is a beautiful Croatian town located in Istria, a peninsula shaped like a bunch of grapes.
Its origin dates back to the 14th century, when a monastery was established there
(opatija in Croatian means monastery).
In the 19th century, Opatija gained notoriety, as part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, it became the fashionable destination for members of the nobility, royalty and celebrities.
The influences of that era are still visible when strolling through the lungomare, admiring the architectural diversity and beauty of the Gulf of Kvarner, where the "Maid with the Seagull" - symbol of Opatija - with her contemplative and serene gaze - plays and lets herself be played with these restless birds.
Opatija é uma bela cidade croata localizada na Ístria, uma península em forma de cacho de uvas. Sua origem remonta
ao século XIV, quando ali se estabeleceu um mosteiro (opatija em croata significa mosteiro).
No século 19, Opatija ganhou notoriedade, como parte do Império Austro-Húngaro, tornou-se o destino
da moda para membros da nobreza, realeza e celebridades.
As influências dessa época ainda são visíveis ao passear pelo lungomare, admirando a diversidade arquitetônica
e a beleza do Golfo de Kvarner, onde a "Donzela com a Gaivota" - símbolo de Opatija - com seu olhar
