project name :  THE HOPE

project locationZiyouna, Baghdad, Iraq

project land area50,337 m2

project bua : 23,000 m2

project typeREHABITATION CENTER FOR TERRORISM VICTIMS
Victims of Iraq survived enormous terrorist attacks, each patient has been physically
and psychologically injured in different and varying manner, Our design approach is to
facilitate the various healing environment to patients that have been injured in
different manners.
The essential need of patients is safety which is accomplished by surrounding the plot
with the main mass as shield and guard creating a sense of calm to inner spaces.
As response to variety of needs of patients, a varying in scales of open spaces are
provided in a hierarchal manner and in a correlation to the functional need as well as
these semi—enclosed open spaces serve the patients the need of safety and privacy in
various levels.
The hierarchal and smooth transition between urban spaces along the land plot is
essential as the patients are needles for any shocking experience.
The same hierarchy extends to the 3D space making the upper floors less enclosed,
based on that main concept the ground floor on the outer most left and right spaces
encloses all the spaces that needs maximum privacy and less social interaction the
upper floors are more intended to therapy spaces with more of interaction with the staff
and other patients. All the spaces the patients interact with are within the inner
boundaries of the open spaces, on the outer boundaries are the spaces that mostly non-patients use.
Taken in consideration the essential needs of ramps that facilitate to the physical
disabled patient to move freely with no restriction.
So Based on the idea of creating a connection to nature the center weaves together
the indoors and outdoors, to stimulate and nurture patients and visitors with hope and
confidence.
