Oman Smart Cities Competition
Project Description
Managed and Prepared the Master plan Concept Design sketches for three sites (Salalah, Sohar, Nizwah) in Oman. Each site has its unique context based on its location, the country’s dedicated vision, and the regional approach.
Sohar Smart City
Sohar is a linear city. The older parts of the city are situated between the coastline and the highway while the newer developments are placed between the highway and the expressway, the site of the New Smart City being one of them.
The project area is located on the inland side of the highway, behind the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque Sohar. On the other side of the highway are the Bait Al Bahjat Al Andaar Palace in Sohar as well as Sohar Garden. From the 1980s into the 2000s, the project area was used as farmland. The project area is approximately 623.8ha / 6.2 Million sqm.

Nizwah Smart City
The project area is located to the South of Nizwa close to Manah along route no. 31 to Adam.
Nizwa, as well as Manah, are historic settlements with the latters Harat Al Bilad is an important large old quarter (Harrah) that is under restoration.

A wadi runs along its eastern edge and also into the project area. In the South it is close to the Oman Across Ages Museum Project a new national museum, as well as Hisn Al Shmoukh, a Royal Palace. The project area is approximately 1200ha/12 million sqm.

The project area is approximately 5,300 ha / 5.3 Million sqm, stretching around 5km in width and 1km in depth. The amount of developable land needs to be studied.
