The Decoy
Acrylic on paper, A3
2013
I used a limited palette. It’s a great practice to play with colours. I used Naple’s yellow, Permanent Rose and Burnt Umber. It’s a mask of metal. The left side is polished and shows not much emotion (because that was the job of the mask owner in my thought) And on the left side which part seems it’s mouth is actually metal plates. The mask has no mouth hole.
On the other side, as you discover the second face – it’s painted to give the impression of rust. The other side of the mask is decaying. That face is showing signs of carrying load, despair – that can be the projection of the mask owner’s emotion that he kept hidden for long.
