QUIVER – DROPCAP DESIGN
In this project, I was tasked to create dropcaps based on the Botanic Gardens in Singapore. I wanted to emphasise the fluidity and abstract quality of water and the pattern of its ripples. The typeface I created is highly inspired by the interactions between objects, creatures and wind on the surface of the water. I took a more experimental approach to this project and embraced trial and error. As I acknowledge the importance of the legibility of each letter, I referenced Designing Type by Karen Cheng for the construction of my letters. However, the fluid, flowy lines in my design were done in a spontaneous and intuitive manner, which provided a more contemporary look to my typeface.
