KENZOKU is a set of two cups and jar made out of aluminum which represent the japanese concept of having a strong bond between humans dedicated to sharing the same story. This three objects are meant to be an excuse for the user to sit down and enjoy a comfortable conversation with that special person that you choose to share valuable moments with.

Looking to find a sustainable and interesting way of creating this pieces, the process we chose was the aluminum casting. Considering this specific type of material we had to analyze many aspects of the aesthetics and function in order to portray the basic concept into this ordinary objects.
After sketching some basic ideas and considering the possible difficulties during the casting, we defined a design which had special features in order to convey a sense of harmony between the three pieces.
The final design was modeled in Rhinoceros and the process for the actual pieces were made with the help of Slicer for Fusion 360 which gave us the final form and the plans to laser cut every single piece, so we could then glued them together to create the volume out of MDF.
Once with the pieces of MDF, the sand casted process could follow. The aluminum was heated at a temperature around 600° C in order to melt and be poured into the molds.
