Niels Heino's profile

Video Essays: Creative Writing / Voice Acting

In 2021 I started a project, a project with the objective to combine two of my favorite things in life. Visual design/art and music.

Everyone that is even aware of my existence in real life knows that I am uncontrollably obsessed with music. The impact that it has on our culture, the impact that it has on us, and the stories that they can convey, all of it fascinates me endlessly.

And thus Heinos was born.

I aim to study and analyze my favorite music, what makes them tick, and more importantly, why I resonate with it so deeply.

My passion for design and art slots in here perfectly, in this way I can share my love for music in an entertaining way, on top of emulating the visuals that my imagination comes up with when I'm listening to music.
My newest video is 55 minutes long, and completely visualized using AI generated visuals. I worked on it for 3 months.
In the video I analyze the creative and sprawling "Hellfire" by experimental rock group "black midi", the characters it highlights, the stories it tells, and what meanings the musicians are trying to convey in their songwriting.
I also created cards for every character in the album, to give viewers an easy way to recognize them, and to give the characters their own visual identity:
In this video I rank my favorite albums of 2021. This gives me an opportunity to be creative in the theme of the albums that I am discussing, and to express my love for these pieces of art. Every album in the video is very different from the other, and so is my visual style for each album that I am discussing.
In this video I discuss the insanely underrated electronic music artist Vale-Smith. I discuss and analyze his discography, and why he is so unique in his field. I tried to be as creative with my visuals as Vale-Smith is with his music.
In my first video I analyze Anna Von Hausswolff's "All Thoughts Fly", and the story it tells without any lyrics. Rooted in mythology and art, this album has a beautiful story to tell about grief and love, all without uttering a word. In the video I analyze the design and visual storytelling in the music videos, as well as the clues that Anna hides in plain sight. All creatively visualized in line with the style of the album.
Lastly, here is the first episode of my interview series: The Musician's Cut. These interviews are directly about the creation process of an album, we go through the album track by track and talk about the intricacies of their conception. Kind of like a featurette on a Blu-ray.
