Background

“Donald Judd (1928-1994)” is an artist who is evaluated as an international exponent of “minimalism” in the contemporary art world.

<Untitled>(1991) is one of his representative works, made of stainless steel and red plexiglass, which presents beauty and grandeur to the viewer with contrasting colors, harmony between the two materials, and scale of the work. One.

I hope that each individual who loves and deeply impressed with this work can feel it in their living space.

With the motivation to do so, he reinterpreted his representative work <Untitled>(1991) as a storage cabinet.

<무제>(1991)는 그의 대표작 중 하나로, 스테인리스와 붉은색 플렉시 글라스의 소재로 제작되어 대비되는 색상과 두 소재 간의 조화, 그리고 작품의 규모로 보는 이들에게 아름다움과 웅장함을 선사하는 그의 대표작 중 하나이다.

이 작품을 사랑하고 깊은 인상을 느낀 각 개인들이 본인의 생활공간에서 느낄 수 있었으면

하는 동기로 그의 대표작인 <무제>(1991)를 수납장으로 재해석하였다.

Minimalism

The biggest keyword of his work is “minimalism”.

The repetition of obvious and simple forms and the nature of minimalism, which provides maximum effect with minimum form, are well represented in his works.

I thought that this element should be kept even when reinterpreted from a work to a product.

In order to be as invisible as possible from the user's field of view, a rectangular perforation was drilled on the bottom of each storage compartment to serve as a handle to open the storage box to preserve the function as a storage cabinet and the original character.

그의 작품의 가장 큰 키워드는 “미니멀리즘”이다.

명백하고 단순한 형태의 반복과 최소한의 형태로 최대한의 효과를 제공하는 미니멀리즘의 성격이 그의 작품에 잘 표상되어 있다. 작품에서 제품으로 재해석 될 때에도 이 요소는 지켜져야 한다고 생각했다.

사용자의 시야에서 최대한 보이지 않게끔, 각 수납 칸의 아랫면에 직사각형의 타공을 뚫어, 수납함을 여는 손잡이로 제공하여 수납장으로서의 기능과 원작의 성격을 함께 보존하려 했다.

Due to the characteristics of “plexiglass”, the material of the original work,

I think that the shadows on the wall caused by light penetrating and the afterimage of red light penetrating through the glass are attractive elements of the work.

I wanted to realize these elements even if the scale is reduced and reinterpreted as a product.

As a furniture used in real life, the most similar colored acrylic and thin stainless steel plate were produced as the main material considering the aesthetics of weight, practicality and complete finishing.

원작의 소재인 “플렉시 글라스”의 특성으로 빛이 투과되어 벽면에 생기는 그림자와 유리를 투과한 붉은 빛의 잔상이 작품의 매력적인 요소라고 생각한다.

스케일이 작아지고, 제품으로서 재해석되어도 이러한 요소를 구현하고 싶었다.

실생활에 사용되는 가구로서, 무게와 실용성 완성도 있는 마감처리에서 나오는 심미성을 고려해 가장 유사한 유색의 아크릴과 얇은 스테인리스 판을 주소재로 제작하였다.
