The target users are the travelers aged between 28 – 35 who like travelling independently. They tend to travel in a casual style which is more relaxing and less concern about time. They have a wide range of interests and like exploring their life in different countries. Therefore, the choices of destinations always include both indoor and outdoor activities.
The idea was focus on how the users can better organize their shoes in beach area. The main feature of this design was to transform the Flip Flops into a handle, which is more convenient for hand carrying. Moreover, the overall thickness can also be reduced when the handles combine together.
The development sketch show a slip fit system of how the supporting part could be removable and attach together. Moreover, various styling of the Flip Flops are sketched up for exploring the forms and details, in order to match with the fashion styles of the target users.
Final Design:
Unit 01 is designed in a geometrical shape with sharp edges and angles to create a stylish sporty look. The large strap can provide a better foot support and to be more comfortable for wearing. The inner shape of the Flip Flops is formed by dynamic curves, which is for fitting with the foot ergonomic and having a visual contrast with the outer shape.
The design approach was to convert the normal Flip Flips from a functional aspect into a new type of fashion accessory. It was a value added design that got a strong image to define with the competitors, which could also fit with the using situation in beach area.
