Jenna Maertz, The Munch Scream, Chalk Pastels, 2022, 18"x22"
In my Illustration class we were asked to create an unconventional portrait of an artist. We were supposed to create it using the same material and similar sizes. I thought of a few artists, but one that came to mind was Edvard Munch. I love the painting The Scream and I think Edvard Munch is an excellent artist. I wanted to recreate the painting using his face as the figure in the scream. I thought it was fitting because the original painting is a depiction of a panic attack he had.

I took inspiration for his portrait from the above images which it is the original The Scream, his self-portrait, and an image of himself. I sketched an outline of the original and then added a sketch of Edvard Munch's face. I then went in with the pastels to create a finished product.
