Informative Illustration "Kaltehofe"

About the project
My friends from Kulturkonsulat asked me to make five DINA1 sized informative illustrations for outdoor information boards. The boards are for Stiftung Wasserkunst Elbinsel Kaltehofe, it's a museum located on an island in the middle of the Elbe river in Hamburg.

Requirements for the illustrations:
On each board the two cartoon mascots Shelduck and Beaver should appear.
On each board should be enough space for texts and the illustrated elements should be on different layers so they could be in front or behind the text boxes.
Most of the boards have one or more flaps that can be opened to reveal hidden illustrations.

client: Stiftung Wasserkunst Elbinsel Kaltehofe
original character design of mascots: Henning Tietz
art direction and layout/design: Lynn Grevenitz
illustration: Kerstin Welther
The information boards
This board is about different mammal species living on the island of Kaltehofe.
There are two flaps on the board. When you open them you can find a fawn behind the deer and a couple of baby foxes behind the fox.
This board is about alien invasive species on the Kaltehofe island habitat. Among them nutria, raccoon dogs, Egyptian goose and mitten crabs.
This board, obviously, is about bats. What I learned while illustrating this is, that there is actually a device called bat detector. It converts the bats' echolocation ultrasound signals to frequencies audible by us.
This board is about water consumption. The wheel in the middle can be turned to reveal different items on the left side and the amount of water needed to produce them on the right side.
This last one was about climate change and its consequences for drinking water. I managed to sneak in some sunglasses here.
