Sink storage for compact living.
Caddy Tower is a kitchen organisation tool designed to fit in the limited space that many kitchens have behind the sink.
The Process
In 2017, Makers Department was commissioned by leading homeware brand Joseph Joseph to design a practical kitchen accessory that would facilitate the organisation of washing-up items, while simultaneously looking attractive and modern.
After conducting thorough user research to identify common user needs in the sink area of the typical kitchen, it was clear that people needed to have their cleaning accessories and detergent to hand, but they often had little or no space to keep these out of sight when not in use.
Iterative Design
We developed numerous ideas around creating a product that would organise all the sink essentials (brush, sponge, washing-up liquid bottle and others) while keeping them accessible and dry, and prototyped and tested the most promising designs.
Our final solution was a caddy that looks clean and discreet and is stored on in the usually narrow area behind the kitchen sink. Its smooth and fluid form makes it easy to clean and to drain water from the wet utensils back to the sink beautifully.
