Urban Sketching in Shanag, Manali
Waking up early in the morning just to capture the sunrise and a thousand new stories that play each day sounds like a dream to me! I love visiting different places since it allows me to connect with people, nature and culture of that space.
In November 2022 I visited Shanag, a quaint village in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, India
AND I WAS IN LOVE, right from the colour palette to the warmth of the welcoming locals,
I couldn't wait to capture it all in my sketchbook. I hope that you're able to experience the place through my travel sketching stories ;)
The strong cold winds would make my fingers go numb! Layering up was fun though :D
1. Local Settlements of Shanag
Their pet dog almost attacked me but its master shouted at the right moment and i'm Alive! Inspite of being a dog lover, I was trembling with fear because the dogs in Manali are HUGE!
2. The Shanag Village Entrance
Each House has a space designated for their cattle and there were flower pots on every balcony! Spotted fresh vegetables kept in a very aesthetic manner, it looks straight out of a Pinterest feed! (Picture In Gallery)

The Locals greeted me with a big smile and the sight of a small girl running behind her school bus on being late was heartwarming! Her mother stood beneath a tree smiling in a shy manner (Picture in Gallery)
5. A Morning hike in Shanag
Panoramic sketch of the entire village, this view leaves one awestruck. Imagine sitting beneath Pine trees, icy cold wind and listening to your thoughts on a mountain top. The high and the rush is unforgettable <3
