The Correa Memorial Park
The building itself embodies the ideologies of ‘India’s greatest architect’- Charles Correa. The proposed building can merge with the ‘un-building’, a term used many times by Correa himself. The building can be a unique example of giving back to society. It draws the pedestrian into the internal open-to-sky courtyards and through the internal streets onto the Mandovi river edge. The building is designed for a wanderer, the building itself directs you in its subtleties to explore the space on your way to the riverfront Sustainability features Cited on natural contour levels Local stone walls Generation of landscape gardens The building is designed to construct mostly in local stone available, the design creates a sustainable environment with minimal cutting of land and the orientation in response to the site and its existing features and channeling the runoff water to the river from the sloped land. It is designed in response to the site, it is a design solution that has emerged from its context and becomes a part of the site.
The spaces are clustered around the central open courtyard, also groups of spaces of various sizes are associated in community and social spaces of different categories. The hierarchy is developed from the public space to the semi public spaces, forming a cluster of eight around the central courtyard that holds the memorial structure. The building has been constructed on Correa’s theory of “using a house in a nomadic way”, that meant using different parts of the building at different times of the day depending upon the passive systems used
